Homegrown Productions first opened its doors to the TV business with its flagship program “Homegrown”, a music program which aired on 8TV in 2004. It featured live recorded performances of local bands, interspersed with the band’s stories and history and what inspires their music. Very soon after, Homegrown was commissioned to produce both seasons of 8TV’s high-profiled Malaysian Idols and the first season of 8TV’s One In A Million. With two seasons of Malaysian Idol under their belts, the team set out to make their mark in the industry with passion and fervor, under the guiding hands of Michael Christian Simon. Homegrown Productions has produced some impressive content for local networks, providing original formats and groundbreaking and mostly original entertainment programmes which have enriched the local TV scene with their unique brand. Some of Homegrown’s top programmes include the Raja Lawak and Maharaja Lawak series produced for Astro. Homegrown also produced the hit travelogue “Destinasi Bajet” for 8TV. In 2014, Homegrown began producing and running a 24 hour local youth television channel for TM’s Unifi TV under Hypp Inspirasi HD. Today, Hypp Inspirasi continues to remain one of the top viewed local Malay channels on the Unifi platform. Helmed by the same team, Homegrown began it’s foray into digital content in 2016 under its sister company, Homegrown Digital Sdn Bhd.
