Formerly known as ‘Eat, Sing & Travel People’, Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO) was established in 2012 and incorporated on 29 October 2015. Our primary objective is to promote western opera music interests among Malaysians through stage performances and concerts whilst also keeping abreast with the objective in promoting Malaysia’s uniqueness in arts, culture and heritage. The company has a roster of over 20 principals singers and a resident chorus of 40 members. To be an innovative, inclusive and financially sustainable opera company. To promote an appreciation for western opera and to establish opera as an integral part of the arts and cultural landscape in Malaysia. Developing emerging talents to nurture and to realize their potential by providing a platform for learning, experience and growth. Our past performances include Carmen (2022), Die Zauberflöte, La Traviata (2019), Madama Butterfly, Hansel & Gretel (2018), Le Nozze di Figaro, La Fille du Régiment (2017), La Bohéme (2016), KLCO Fundraising Concert (2015), Can you Handel This? (2015), Double Bill: Tchaikovsky Nutcracker & Amahl & the Night Visitors (2014), L’Elisir D’amore (2023, 2014), Voices & Winds featuring Mozart’s Coronation Mass (2014), Carmen (2013), Viva Verdi Bicentennial Celebration (2013), L’heure Exquise (2013), La Bohème (abridged version) (2012). In 2024, KLCO studio expanded it's space to include a new recital hall, 3 small rehearsal studios and a cafe. Malaysia’s very own opera company. Actively producing fully staged operas, concerts and festivals for more than a decade.
