Lii Hen Plantation Sdn Bhd's 80%-owned PPL Plantations Sdn Bhd (PPLP) has entered into a sub-development agreement with PIJ Holdings Sdn Bhd (PIJH) to develop a land in Mersing. The 8,581-acre land was to be planted with rubber trees for the production of latex and rubber wood for sale to the related downstream industry. The development on the plantable area in the land would be carried out within two months of the period approved by the state technical committee from the extraction of timber from the plot. During a routine visit to the estate on February 19, 2025, its management noticed discrepancies between the latest estate report and the physical condition of the trees. The estate, spanning approximately 436 hectares in Sembrong, is planted with cloned rubber trees and is located on permanent reserve forest land. Lii Hen Industries Bhd said that its subsidiary, PPL Plantations Sdn Bhd (PPLP), has discovered damage to a portion of its rubber tree plantation in Johor. The extent and cause of the damage are currently under investigation. The financial impact of the incident is still being assessed.
