It was legally registered in Malaysia and established for locals as a convenient sundry shop. The legacy was passed to Mr Varatharaju Mutaiya in the 1980s, and it was renamed Mutaiyas Trading. In 2000, Mr Vasudevan Mutaiya transformed it into the first Cash & Carry in the Kuala Muda district, specifically in Sungai Petani. MUTAIYAS CASH & CARRY (PENANG) SDN. BHD. is also involved in charitable activities through the Vallalar Charitable Foundation Malaysia (VCFM) since 2011, aiming to alleviate poverty and empower the less privileged through education and training.
